Knee Ankle Foot Orthoses begin above the knee spanning the knee, ankle and foot joints, they are commonly referred to as KAFO’s. Common users of KAFO’s are those who have suffered a spinal cord injury, live with post polio syndrome, charcot-marie-tooth disease and other neuro-muscular diseases causing severe weakness of the leg muscles requiring support to keep their knees and/or ankles locked while standing. Depending on the weakness joints may be locked or free depending on the amount of support required, or a combination of locking and free joints.
